In this project I would like to highlight the issue of the lack of interest in MLB baseball amongst younger kids. While not the most serious of topics, it is an issue that I find to be important since I would like to ultimately find myself in a career working in baseball in some capacity. To draw awareness to this issue I plan to call for a greater amount of personality be shown in the way that MLB games are broadcast. The league itself is full of young, All-Star talent, with big personalities that could easily appeal to young people between the ages of 10-19. However, the way that games are being broadcast now those personalities are not highlighted as much as they should be which in turn has hurt interest in the game. While there have not been any specific PSA’s made in regards to the way that a boring broadcast has hurt the games popularity, PSA’s on getting more young kids involved in baseball exist. In those PSA’s, the importance of being on a team and loving the game are highlighted as well as the role that baseball plays in a community. In my PSA I plan on highlighting the aspects of a boring broadcast that turn young people away from the game, but will then switch to contrast the boring broadcast to what could potentially be done to make the game more appealing.

I hope that this video will change how networks chose their broadcasters for MLB baseball games. While this is a significant undertaking, this issue is one that has been voiced by many fans of the games especially in this year’s Postseason. In making this message public, I hope to draw attention to the fact that boring MLB game broadcasts can hurt the interest level in young fans. If a person were to watch this video, they would become aware of the issue to which change could later be made to broadcaster selection and as a result the popularity of the game.

The ideal audience for this PSA would be individuals who are a fan of MLB baseball and want to see the game be successful amongst the younger demographic of fans, and as a result the future success of the game. The people most directly influenced by this PSA would be those associated with MLB broadcasts as those individuals are the ones whose boring broadcast style has hurt interest amongst younger fans. Along with the broadcasters, the PSA would also impact the interest in the game amongst younger fans as it tries to spark more interest within that demographic of fans.

The logistics of this project are fairly straight forward as I would not need to contact anyone to create the video but instead rely on my own research, working with my own actors (friends) to simulate the calls I want to recreate as examples and filming can take place right on the SJU baseball fields.
