Design Journal 17
Throughout the semester this course has exposed me to a whole new way of thinking and has taught me how to utilize the various software applications we explored. Prior to taking this course, I had no experience and next to no knowledge in using any of the Adobe Creative Suite applications. Going in cold like I did was at first pretty intimidating to me since it seemed as if a lot of other kids in the class had at least some background in using these applications and I was unsure if I would be able to keep up with the pace of the class. After going through this semester I feel like I have been able to improve in both my abilities with the software used in class as well as with my ability to creatively design using the computer. It definitely was not easy to get used to using the software required for class, and there were countless late nights spent trying and failing to use them, but in the end I feel as if this class pushed me to expand my comfort zone in the communications field and has improved my abilities.
Moving forward I will look to utilize the skills learned in this class to help diversify my online profile. Prior to this class I looked to focus primarily on my writing and speaking ability to create content through either blogging or pod casting, but now will look to create more content for classes as well as for personal interests using the software that we explored throughout the semester.
For the most part I enjoyed the challenge that each of the three major projects throughout the semester presented as they each explored a different aspect of digital design in their own unique way. However if I had to change one assignment it would be the Photoshop project. I feel like by limiting the project to just manipulating the human body but restrictions on what people were able to do. Personally I would expand the parameters of the assignment to however the student wanted to explore Photoshop while still exploring all of the concepts we looked at in the project as is.
